Text Box: FROM THE CHAPTER ON THE REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM

NYMPHOMANIA

Opinion varies as to the cause of this type of excessive sexual behaviour in mares but it may well be linked with follicular cysts in the ovaries. The mare will cycle regularly but will become difficult to handle during the period she is on heat showing some of the symptoms associated with mareish behaviour. An appropriate remedy should be given for a few days in the period leading up to this time and over the period she is on heat.

Use the 200c potency and dose twice daily.

Platina if the mare is haughty, headstrong or strong willed
Lachesis is there is sensitivity to touch, suspicion and aggression
Lilium tigrinum often best suits younger mares showing this type of behaviour for the first time
Murex with markedly excessive sexual excitement and possibly aggression
Origanum as an alternative to Murex
Hyoscyamus where there is marked degree of aggression

PROBLEMS WITH LACATION (MILK PRODUCTION)
INADEQUATE MILK SUPPLY

The following remedies can help increase the production of milk where it is insufficient. Dose 3 times daily.

Urtica 200c	A good general remedy to use initially

Alfalfa 6x	Best used where the mare is in poor condition. Will also improve the quality of the milk

Medusa 30c As an alternative to Urtica
Agnus castus 6c	Where the mare appears depressed
Zincum met 30c Where the udder is painful
